I started researching Queen of Bedlam in late 2009. ![]() I think I started writing full length fiction when I was 14 so … 14 years, I guess. Queen of Bedlam, was published in June 2014. How long did it take for your first novel to be published? I tried to write Regency stories in the same style so I could remain in that world a bit longer. ![]() I loved them so much, but there were only six novels. I didn’t attempt a novel until I was in my teens, when I read the full works of Jane Austen. ![]() Throughout my childhood I jotted down little stories here and there. I don’t think there was one particular thing. Having read The Silent Companions and loved it (review coming soon!), and being a bit of a fan of the Gothic myself, I caught up with Laura to ask her some questions about her writing style, her favourite books and what she was planning next. Making her debut onto the book scene in 2014 with the excellent Queen of Bedlam, she’s gone from strength to strength, with her latest novel already gaining attention, having been chosen as noted bookstore Goldsboro Book’s Book of the Month for October. Though she’s perhaps more well-known for her Georgian-set historical fiction, Laura Purcell has been making waves in the book world with the release of her latest novel, Gothic extravaganza The Silent Companions. ![]()
